Newport-Mesa Unified School District Announces a Staff Addition

Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) announces the addition of Ms. Angela Allen-Hess as the coordinator of child welfare and attendance. 

Ms. Allen-Hess has more than 27 years of experience in education. She began her tenure as a classroom teacher at the secondary level serving the Paramount Unified School District community.  Under her leadership as California School Age Families Education Program (Cal-Safe) facilitator and teacher, the program was designated a model program for the state of California. 

With Santa Ana Unified School District, Ms. Allen-Hess supported sites in the area of student wellness and athletics as a curriculum specialist. Most recently, Ms. Allen-Hess served as interim coordinator of student wellness, physical education and student athletics. As coordinator, some of Ms. Allen-Hess’s most prominent roles were coordinating wellness initiatives across the district, supporting athletic programs, advising on the implementation of health curriculum, and developing a standards-based K-12 physical education program. In this role, she was also instrumental in fostering community relationships to connect students and families with impactful supports.  

Assistant Superintendent, Student Support Services, Dr. Sara Jocham stated, “We are excited to welcome Ms. Allen-Hess, we know her background and expertise will make an excellent addition to the student support team.”

Ms. Allen-Hess obtained her Masters of Arts in Curriculum Development and Instruction, from the California State University of Dominguez Hills and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine.

Ms. Allen-Hess will join the NMUSD team on November 12, 2019.
